Time, Timeless and Timeless-ness

By Shaykh Hisham al-Qabbani

We must transcend time and timelessness in order to comprehend the meaning of hadir and nadhir in order to understand how the Prophet (s) sees all that is and all that will be and inasmuch as the Prophet is the light of Allah and everything emanates from an-nur al-Muhammadi. And all emanates from Ism ar-rahman.

Once we understand that light is timeless everything becomes clear. We live in world that is electromagnetic. From computers to satellites to... is all electromagnetic that is all based on waves.

And that has been shown that everything is in wave form until it is witnessed. That means that creation is already there, it is what we witness. When we witness a wave pattern it changes character and become a particle running at the speed of light, and that becomes permanent, timeless. When we make a niyyah, the niyyah of the heart, that is a wave that changes the pattern of electromagnetic energy that interacts with the heart, and that is there for all time. That is basic physics, mechanics these days. So we as human beings, when we witness something that is recorded. When we wish something that is recorded.

The Prophet (s) is the very source of light so for him there is no before and no after. We must learn to transcend the frame of before and after. We must go outside to timelessness. We must transcend subject and object. In timelessness subject and object become one. All these things fit together like pieces of jigsaw puzzle that is so beautiful and so complete.

Mawlana Shaikh Hisham:
Allah said, on the tongue of His Prophet (s), La tasub ad-dahr, ana ad-dahr. Prophet said, in holy hadith that Allah said, "Do not curse the Time, for I am the Time."
If I said "I don't exist," does everyone understand it?
If I say "you don't exist," do you understand it, and accept it?
We all understand that Allah Exists and we have only our contingent existence.

Radiation travels at speed of light. If I take a picture of you in the dark it is photo of your radiation. That radiation is throughout the universe, sun, moon, galaxies, the radiation from all these is with us and it is everywhere.

When that radiation is witnessed by you or me, it is witnessed and it changes to a particle form. That is quantum mechanics. Now when it changes its character from wave to particle, that particle travels at the speed of light, so it become time-independent. Hence for that particle there is no before and no after; it is there for all times to come, registered. When the angels record what we have witnessed of our heart, our deeds etc. is the intersection of the ruh with Allah's creation. When I witness you, then something is recorded and that reality changes. When I intended love or hate, that is recorded. Thus the niyyah is time-independent and so recorded until the Day of Judgment.

The light of Muhammad (s), nuri Muhammadi, is the light of existence. That is a statement and I will explain it. What is existence? For something to exist it must have the three characteristics, according to one our Grandshaykhs, Shaykh Ahmad Sirhindi. What are they? It must have light, it must have power, and it must have knowledge. That which has light, power and knowledge exists. Only Allah has light, knowledge and power. The word wajha which scholars translated as Face also means existence. We exist on a contingent basis, because we have been bestowed some measure of light, knowledge and power, and that is contingent which has been granted to us and does not belong to us.

When that ruh which intersects Allah's creation it is witnessed by Allah's leave, because it has been bestowed the Nuri Muhammadi, as in analogy given by Shaykh Nazim and Grandshaykh Abdullah. He said that time is like a fish floating in the ocean. So imagine this fish has two batteries attached to it. It is swimming and it has a light in front of it. It cannot see anything until that light shines on it. Until the ruh shines on something you don't see it. That fish, which is ruh, floating in Allah's creation by the Will and Knowledge of Allah.

That light that allows the fish to see is Nuri Muhammadi. Were that light to go away the ruh would not see anything. Grandshaykh said one part of our light is an-Nur al-Muhammadi and one part is from Allah; in fact it is all from Allah for the source of the Prophet's (s) light is Allah. That means that Prophet (s) was there in the first creation. That from the mercy of Allah swt emanated one single ray of light and out of that one single ray of light was the Name of Muhammad (s) and from that one light shone out and from it was created the seven heavens. And from that seven heavens' light one ray came out and it was the skies and earth. So that was the recognizance.

That means he is hadir and nadhir from time immemorial. So the Prophet (s) he is there with the light of existence. That mean that light's knowledge and power are an emanation from the Prophet (s) and so for him there is no time, ageless and timeless. So Isra and Mi'raj are so obvious. For him time is immemorial. He travels at the speed of light. He is sleeping and yet in that time he travels to the heavens and comes back and the bed is still warm.

Dr. N: So therefore what we as mureeds must cultivate is to think beyond time. We are prisoners of time; today, yesterday and tomorrow. Subject and object. There is no subject and object. There is ruh with light knowledge and power, which are contingent. That intersects and when it intersects it is recorded. Whether an ant walks in the night on a rock or we look at something with bad eyes that is recorded and it is timeless and there on the Day of Judgment. We need to think in a timeless paradigm and framework. The Prophet (s) does not belong to time and is timeless.

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham:
Allah describes the Prophet as rahmat. From Rahman come rahmat. From rahmat comes all creation, creation of man, sama, anything at all that moves, not just heavens. Anything that moves that rotates, that sings, because it is in Presence of Allah, Allah said be, Kun and as they are so happy they dance around. So the Prophet being ar-rahmah, which is emanating from ar-Rahman, is there all the time. So the Presence of Prophet (s) is always with us. So on the Day of Judgment he is witness for us, as he is always with us. That is a different view of the words of Allah wa ma arsalnaka illa rahmatan lil-`alameen We have not sent ye except as a mercy to all creation. There are so many universes. He is rahmat for all of the universes. And Allah is ar-Rahman. So when Allah's rahmat travels down, the Prophet is there.
